If your air conditioner is not working correctly or running inefficiently there are a number of simple exercises that we recommend you try before phoning for help.

These are the most common issues with air conditioners:
- Does not switch on
- Does not operate
- Does not cool or heat
- Indoor fan does not operate
- Return air grille is noisy
- Outdoor unit leaks water
- Remote control display is faint
- Unit stops in heating mode
Does not switch on
Is the circuit breaker in the fuse box tripped?
Switch On.
Is the isolating switch on the outdoor unit on?
Does not operate
Unit in fault
Turn off power for 1 minute & try again
Unit is defrosting (heating only)
Allow defrost cycle to complete.
Allow approximately 8 minutes after turning on
Unit is timing out on the anti-cycle timer.
Does not cool or heat
Is the correct mode selected?
Select heat or cool or auto mode.
Is the correct temperature set?
Select a correct temp to match the mode selected.
Dirty return air filters
Clean the filters.
Outdoor unit blocked
Clean any debris blocking the outdoor unit.
Zone not switched on
Turn on zone control (ducted units only).
Fan speed set to low
Select high fan speed until room is at temperature.
Indoor fan does not operate
Possible in warm up mode if heating mode is selected
This will occur until sufficient heat has built up in the indoor unit to prevent cold drafts. It should then revert to the fan speed selected.
Return air grille is noisy
Return air filter is blocked
Clean the filter.
Outdoor unit leaks water
Heating mode
This is normal in heat mode. A drain can be fitted if required.
Remote control display is faint
Battery power is low
Change the batteries. Check the batteries are installed correctly.
Unit stops in heating mode
Unit is in defrost
This is normal during heating mode as the unit needs to defrost the ice on the outdoor unit coil. Unit should start heating again after approx. 12 minutes.
Unit switches on / off automatically
Auto timer function is engaged
Turn off the auto timer / time clock and try again.
